President George Weah of Liberia

Football legend George Weah, 51, has been sworn in as President of Liberia. It’s the country's first democratic transfer of power in 70 years. President Weah took over from Africa's first female president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. Liberians of all ages formed long lines outside Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, near the capital, Monrovia, to witness the inauguration. The new President has promised to Tackle corruption, Help the private sector, Youth training, Transparency and Respect for rights and democracy.

Botswana Shuts Bushiri Church

Botswana has shut down the church of a controversial Malawian self-styled prophet,  
Pastor Shepherd Bushiri, who claimed to walk on air. The government confirmed the closure of Shepherd Bushiri's Enlightened Christian Gathering Church (ECG) in Gaborone, reportedly due to concerns over so-called "miracle money".

British Ghanaian appointed Minister in England

The Theresa May led British Government has appointed 41 year-old Sam Gyimah as Minister of Universities and Science. Mr Gyimah, 41, will work alongside the newly appointed Education Secretary, Damian Hinds, who is replacing Justine Greening.

Show off's nabbed for fraud

A federal grand jury indicted five individuals on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. According to the indictment, between February 2016 and in or about July 2017, the defendants gained access to email accounts associated with the victims and sent false wiring instructions, causing the victims to wire millions of dollars into drop accounts set up by the defendants. The group had posted photos of their escapades on social media.
